Creating a blog post doesn’t only make your site rank in search engines but also it is your chance to show you who you are, what you are, and how you are as a designer.
When people notice you they will eventually notice your design projects.
In your portfolio site, you tend to make too much effort in socializing and promoting yourself while trying to share your works but in a blog, people share it for you.
Take Advantage of Social Media
Social media site are exceptionally helpful in promoting businesses of all shapes and sizes. Social media allows you to connect to millions of people and the Internet offers tons of collaboration opportunities. Take advantage of them. How do you know which social media networks to use? Start with business-centric sites such as LinkedIn, Spoke and Ryze then opt for the biggest personal networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
Enter a Contest
Look for a contest that you think is reputable enough this helps promote your design project. Contest is a win-win action for you. If you win it gives a high reputation to you and to the project but if you don’t win, you will still have the benefit of getting your work seen by numerous people.
Although social media networks is a trend nowadays, getting out of the house and actually meeting up with new people still works to the highest level. When it comes to self-promotion, networking is a single most effective tool for many. Attend design meet ups in your area and talk about your work and don’t forget to bring plenty of business cards. Big brands often sponsor these meet ups including Adobe, Behance, and Dribble, which are held regularly in cities all over the world.
Offer Perks and Freebies
Whether it is a badge, color palette, texture or vector pack, giving free items will surely drive traffic to your site. Who doesn’t like to have a free item, right? Share these perks and freebies to your social media sites and make sure you put a link to the items that people want to see.
Buy an Ad
Although this strategy is not free or charge, buying an ad really works as it helps you reach more people. It could be online, newspaper or magazine, or on television or radio. Make sure your ad is place in a channel that will reach your target audience directly. For instance, if your target audience is the local clients then placing your ad in a newspaper or in a magazine may be the best place for you. If you are looking for clients online then you can buy an app in Google or Facebook.
Promoting a newly designed project may seem a daunting task but with the right strategy and tools available, surely your project will come a long way.
